Wireframe 3d Studio Max Tutorial
In this tutorial I will try and show you the basics
of making a nice wireframe image in max. Like the
example below
First off make a shape, any shape that you want, in
my example I use the Torus Knot object.
Now that we have a basic shape, the rest is all up to
the material. To bring up the material editor press
the "m" key on your keyboard. For now just use one of
the blank gray materials, and in the two unchecked boxes
called "wire" and "2-sided" check them both
Now put that material on your object and it should give
you a basic wireframe images when rendered. Similar
to the one below
Now we are going to spice up the actual wires on the
wire frame. In order to do this apply a mesh smooth
with the Alteration
set to the value of 2, and all other setting left the
same
What this does is make the object smoother which forces
the wires on the wireframe to become small to accommodate
for the tight weaving of the objects structure. When
rendered it should look like the image below
Now that you have learned how to make the basic shape
and material, it is time to take it to the next level.
Press "m" again to bring up the material editor and
choose the get material icon
Then choose mat library and look until you find the
Reflections_lake_Standard material
If you have a valid version of Max, this material should
have came with it.
Now double click on the Reflection_Lake_Standard to
place it in your material editor. Then change the three
color boxes to a nice blue color
Now go to "maps"
maps options appear, check the box labeled"opacity"
and were it says "none" click and choose "falloff"
Now all you have to do is do what we did in the beginning,
check the 2 boxes labeled"wire" and "2-sided" and
put the material on your object and you should get
a render like the one below
