Spikes 3d Studio Max Tutorial
In this one, I will show you how to make the average
cool trendy 3d object. Including some work in Photoshop
(optional) In the end, the image will look like the
one below:
The first thing that you need to do is open up a
new file is Max. Now we are going to make a basic
triangle, making sure that you make the top width
very thin. To do this, use the scale tool, and in
the "top view" select and drag until it
looks thin enough.
This is the tool you select to make a triangle shape
Now we are going to stretch the image so that it
becomes a nice long spike. To do This the easy way,
go to Parametric Deformers, and select Stretch
Now just adjust the values so that it makes a nice
spike, like the ones below
Now we are going to duplicate the spike. Do do This,
go to edit>clone
Now use the settings below, you can name it whatever
you want, as long as the name is unique
Just keep duplicating until you get a lo of spikes.
Now select each spike, and start to rotate them using
the rotation tool. Eventually you will get something
like the image below
Now just put on a texture. If you have a legal copy
of Max, then it should have come with a lot of texture.
I used the Reflective-Lake texture. Then I changed
the three colors the blue, and adjusted the opacity.
Now render it, and depending on what texture you
used, you should have an image like the one below
Now comes the part in Photoshop Bring your new rendered
image into Photoshop, and apply a radial blur, making
sure that the center of the blur is in the bottom
left corner. Now I duplicated the blurred layer, and
set the mode to color dodge, and turned out like This:
Now save you image, and head on back over to Max
Now we are going to re-render it with our new background.
To do This, click on environments, and under were
it says "Environment map" click were it
says "none" It should then bring up a second
window, with different texture choices. To scroll
to your custom background, click on Bitmap. Now just
search through your hard-drive to were you saved your
background and open it
Now use the settings below:
Now jut render your image again and you should have
a nice looking picture. The next step for me was to
take the image back into Photoshop, and add some trendy
text, and lines. In the end it should look like This:
