Selection Tools Photoshop Tutorial 3
This is the third part to the 3 part tutorial on
learning about the selection tools. Make sure that
you do step 1 and 2 first.
Now that you have learned just about everything about
the basic selection tools, you are most likely wondering
about those other 3 selection tools. Well, go ahead
and right click on the 2nd set of selection tools
to reveal 3 more.

The first one we are going to learn about is the
Polygonal Lasso tool, so go ahead and select it.

This tool can be used to make ANY polygon shape.,
What is a polygon? A polygon is any shape that has
at least 3 sides, the sides are all straight, and
the shape is a closed shape, meaning that there is
NO openings. The inside of the shape is fully separated
from the space outside of it.
How do you use the Polygonal Lasso tool? Well this
tool acts much differently from the basic selection
tools. You do not click and drag for this tool, you
simply click ones to start of your shape, and continue
to click around until you have made a shape that you
are satisfied with In order to end your selection
simple put your mouse over the very starting point
of your selection, your mouse should add a little
circle shape which enables you to click and connect
your shape. If you have forgotten were your starting
point was, don't worry, all you have to do is hold
the Ctrl button and left click.
Here is an example of a shape that can be made with
the Polygon Lasso Tool

The next selection tool is the "Lasso Tool"
So go ahead and select it from your selection tools
menu

This tool is easy to use, just hold down the mouse
button and start drawing, when you make a shape that
you are happy with let go of the mouse button to connect
your selection.
This tool is very handy when used to extract certain
object from a picture.

Probably the weirdest selection tool out of the 3
is the Magnetic Lasso Tool
So go ahead and select it from your selection tool
menu

Click ones and starting moving your mouse around
the image. You will see that it behaves similar to
a magnet, following your mouse movements, but not
exactly. When you are done making your selection,
click on the starting point to end, or hold the Ctrl
button and click (like the Polygonal Lasso Tool)

Well there you have it, you now know just about all
you need to know about the selection tools to start
you off. These 3 tutorials were meant to help you
understand the tools, now its your turn to go and
play around with them :) have fun!
