Brand in Photoshop Tutorial
In this tutorial we will being giving a person of your choice a "brand." First things first, find a good image to work with. You can find one of your own, or use the one below.

Use your text tool to write some words that you would like to brand. The effect works best of the text is bold and thick.

Create a new layer above your text layer, and use your rectangular selection tool to make a rectangle around your text. Once you have it selected, choose Edit > Stroke, and stroke your selection. I used a 2pixel stroke, but you may want to increase/decrease the size depending on the size of your image and text.

Click back onto your text layer, and with the text tool, right click on your text and choose "Rasterize Type." Now merge your text layer and your rectangular border by clicking on the rectangular border layer and pressing Ctrl+E to merge one layer downward.

Change the layer mode of your newly merged layer to "overlay." You should have something similar to mine.

Duplicate this layer once, and change the layer mode of the duplicate to "soft light."

While on your soft light layer, choose Layer > Layer Styles > Drop Shadow. Add a small drop shadow with a brown color. For more details about the settings I used, see the image below.

Your done! Here is how mine turned out.
