Interface Photoshop Tutorial

This is the first in a series of tutorials that will show you how to make an easy interface. In this tutorial I will show you how to make the basis of the interface, and in later tutorials I will show you how to add little details. The first thing you need to do is create a new image, maybe 800x600 or 1024x768 depending on what resolution you are in. Next select a rectangular shape in a new layer, on the top of your screen and fill it with a Linear gradient with your foreground as white, and your background as 212121 or any other medium gray color. When you fill it make sure the top portion of the shape is the lighter color.

Now that you have the main part of your interface, select a small portion of the bottom of it. As seen below.

Then with the same colors, on a new layer, zoom in by pressing "control and +" and fill your new small selection with a Linear gradient, again, make sure the light portion is on the top. As seen below.

interface tutorial 2

Then go to select>modify>contract and contract your selection by a value of 2, or 3 depending on how big your selection is.

Now fill your contracted selection with the same Linear gradient, but this time, let the light portion be on the bottom

interface tutorial 3

Now zoom out by going to view>Actual pixels.

Now on a new layer, use the rectangle selection tool and select a rectangle to the left of your interface, and fill it with the same color gradient, but let the light portion be on the bottom

Now using the method above, contract your selection by 3. Then go to layer>merge visible. And using you new selection, press delete.

interface tutorial 5

Now you should have something like the picture above. The next thing you need to do is select half of your interface, going horizontally. Then go to image>modify> Brightness/contrast, and darken your image until it looks like min, below.

interface tutorial 6

Now, using the line tool, draw a black like, and a white line, parallel to each other, bordering the point which marks the change in brightness, this is easily done when zoomed in

interface tutorial 7

and continue the line all the way across your interface, deleting the portion that crosses the whole. Now just follow my gradient button tutorial, and add some buttons

Now your all done, so on to the next interface tutorial!
