Cool Abstract 3d Studio Max Tutorial
This tutorials will show you how to make a cool abstract
image. This one takes a little bit of time but it
is worth the end effect.
Start out by resettling your Max window. Then take
the geosphere object

and use it to make a nice little ball in your perspective
view.

Then to the right in the Geosphere menu uncheck
the smooth option, and after you do that you should
get an image like the one below.

Now we are going to right click on the image with
the normal move cursor so it puts up a menu. Then
go to convert> convert to editable patch, like
seen in the page below

Now right click again and choose extrude patch, like
seen in the image below

Now click somewhere on the image, then after you
click on it move your cursor over the spot in witch
you clicked and a new cursor object will appear Wen
it does keep your mouse over that stop, left click
and drag it out, This should allow you to pull each
individual piece of the geosphere out.

Now here is the hard part, try to pull out almost
every section of the geosphere until you get it to
look like the image below

Now all you have to do is play with the views a little
and render it. It also helps which texture you use.
Click on the materials icon, or just press M to bring
up the material editor.

Now if you want to get a look like the one in the
thumb nail preview than use the material settings
below. Though it is nice to fool around with the materials
yourself to see what you can come up with.
Three colors= orange
Maps: Click opacity and reflections and make them
both fall off.
Leave everything else the same.
The finished product should look something like the
image below:
