Cloud Mist Photoshop Tutorial

Ok this tutorial will show you how to make some easy, but cool mist using the cloud filter. First thing you are going to need to do is make a new image. You can make it any size that you want, but if you want it to look like mine than set your image size to 200x200. Next set your image setting like the ones below.

cloud mist 1

When you are in your image, start off by changing your foreground color to white and your background color to black.

cloud mist 2

After you are done doing that go to the filter table, then go to render, and choose cloud. This should give you a nice black and white cloud on your image

cloud mist 3

Now we are going to distort the image so that it looks more like mist. To do this go to the filter tab, then to distort, and choose wave. Once in the wave settings you are going to have to play around with them until you think your image looks like you want it. Depending on the size of your image you are going to use different settings. For my 200x200 image I used the setting below

Type: Sine

Number of Generators: 17

wavelength- Min=490 Max=639

amplitude- 20, 49

scale- Horiz.=100 Vert.=100

Undefined Areas = Repeat Edge Pixel

After doing that you should have a nice wavy cloud like image. Now we are going to change the color of the image. To do this go to the image tab, then to adjust, and choose Hue/Saturation. When in this table use the settings below to get the nice blue that I got. You can choose any color you want, just play around with the settings a little.

After doing this you should have an image similar to mine.

cloud mist 5

Now it should start to be looking a little cool. Next we are going to make the colors a little more interesting. To do this duplicate the layer that you have and set the mode to screen. This should make your image a lot lighter than it was, like the picture below

cloud mist 6

Now duplicate the layer again, but this time set the mode to Color Dodge. That should give you an image like the one below.

cloud mist 7

And that is about it, now you know a cool and easy way to get a nice effect. Now I just resized my image to a 75x75 and im all done
